Fee Waivers for Low-Income Filers

The court may waive the filing fee if you apply for relief as an indigent (no income or very low income and few assets). Usually, you will qualify if you receive public assistance, long-term unemployment compensation, or disability benefits (and possibly child support) as your only income, but not if you are employed full-time.

If you think you qualify for the fee waiver, check the appropriate box on the questionnaire or paper intake form; with your first-step documents, we will include a court petition for you to complete, sign, and return to us together with the signed documents.

A judge will decide if you qualify for free filing. If you do, we will also deduct $30 from our fee, leaving you with a total payment of $195, provided that you select the single-payment plan and pay in full when you return your signed documents.
